The Focal Point 8-stage spectral motion processor plugin interface
01
Eight Independent Stages

Eight filter stages, each independently configurable across ten filter types — from clean cuts to Comb and Formant character — so the palette scales from surgical filtering to resonant movement.

02
Focus, Spread & Motion

A macro system for the relationship between stages: Focus sets the center, Spread sets the distance, and two independent Motion generators bring the whole shape to life.

03
Sidechain & Sync

Independent Sidechain lets external or internal signal drive the motion, and Tempo Sync locks Motion 1 and Motion 2 to the host tempo when you want the movement to lock to the groove.

04
Tape & Vinyl Drift

A dedicated free-running drift engine, independent of Motion. Tape adds irregular wow and flutter; Vinyl creates a repeating eccentric wobble — from barely perceptible movement to obvious warble.

Motion

Four macros. One evolving shape.

Focus and Spread set where the eight stages sit relative to each other. Motion scales how strongly that formation moves, while Drift adds its own slow, continuous wobble modeled on tape and vinyl movement, independent of Motion.

Focus
The center frequency every stage's own position is measured from — move it and the whole formation follows.
Spread
Sets how far the eight stages fan out from Focus, from tightly clustered to widely spaced.
Motion
Scales how strongly Motion 1, Motion 2, and Sidechain move the formation — from fully removed to beyond their authored depth. Drift is unaffected.
Drift
A slow, continuous pitch/time wobble in Tape or Vinyl character, from barely-there to obviously alive.
Routing

Shape the relationship between stages

Beyond static filtering, two independent motion generators and per-stage mix control let the eight-stage formation move and blend in real time.

Motion 1
The first of two independent motion generators, modulating stage frequency for continuous, musical movement.
Motion 2
A second, independent motion generator — layer it against Motion 1 for more complex, less repetitive movement.
Stage Mix
Blend each stage's processed signal back against dry, independently, for exact control over how present each stage's effect is.
Independent Sidechain
Drive Motion from an external or internal sidechain input alongside Motion's own free-running generators, for movement that responds to the material itself.
Sync & Offset

Lock it to the groove, or don't

Motion 1 and Motion 2 can run free or lock to the host tempo, with per-stage phase offset for movement that unfolds across the eight stages rather than all at once. Drift is always free-running: it has its own Rate in Hz and never locks to tempo.

Tempo Sync
Motion 1 and Motion 2 can each free-run or lock to host tempo, independently, per stage or globally.
Phase Offset
Offsets each stage's own motion phase, so movement can cascade across the eight stages instead of moving in lockstep.
Global Motion Intensity
One macro that scales the combined depth of every stage's motion at once, for a fast overall push without touching individual stages.

FAQ

What is The Focal Point?

An eight-stage spectral motion processor for precise filtering, resonant movement, and evolving tonal shape — eight independent filter stages, Focus, Spread, two Motion generators, Drift, Tempo Sync, and Independent Sidechain.

Can I get it now?

Yes — The Focal Point is available now.

What formats are supported?

VST3 and AU on macOS (Apple Silicon & Intel, Universal). AAX / Windows are not currently supported.

How many computers can I install it on?

Up to 2 computers that you own or control.

Is educational licensing available?

Educational and institutional licensing may be available for schools, labs, and training facilities. Contact Mainline Audio for details.

Do you offer a demo?

Yes. A fully functional 14-day demo — the same AU/VST3 installer as the paid version — is available with no audio interruptions, muting, or feature restrictions. Get it through the free demo checkout above; you'll receive download access by email. Once installed, choose Start 14-Day Demo when you open The Focal Point. No payment or license key required.

Will there be updates?

Mainline Audio may provide updates for The Focal Point at its discretion. There is no automatic in-app update check today.
